Omar Sangare's new book "Othello. Pale from Envy"

In his new book, “Othello. Pale from Envy,” Assistant Professor of Theatre Omar Sangare interprets the legend of Othello as the story of a contemporary hero who devotes his life to civil service.

In this regard, Othello’s story is certainly one of jealousy, but more importantly one of dashed hopes and lost identity. Professor Sangare also analyzes many productions and interpretations of Othello, including those of Orson Welles, Anthony Hopkins, Laurence Olivier, and Laurence Fishburne.

The book has been published by the Nowy Swiat Publishing House, one of the most prestigious publishers in Poland. Nowy Swiat releases several dozen high-profile books annually. Their range of books includes literary fiction, biographies, scholarly essays, and scientific literature.

The book, with an editorial note by Oscar-winning director Andrzej Wajda, has been published under the auspices of Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education and Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York City. “The doctoral thesis is excellent,” Andrzej Wajda, Oscar-winning director. “Omar Sangare was born to play Othello,” Barbara Delatiner, The New York Times.
