Author Aminatta Forna is currently a Professor of Creative Writing at Bath Spa University, but Africana Studies is proud to consider her part of the Williams Community as a two-time Sterling Brown Distinguished Visiting Professor, once in Fall 2011 and again in Fall 2013.
This weekend we received the news that Professor Forna is a recipient of a Windham Campbell literature prize for fiction, for her most recent novel, The Hired Man. In addition to a citation and award, winners of the Donald Windham-Sandy M. Campbell Literature Prizes receive an unrestricted grant of $150,000 to support their writing. The mission of the prizes is to call attention to literary achievement and provide writers with the opportunity to focus on their work independent of financial concerns.
All of Africana Studies wishes Aminatta a hearty congratulations. Well deserved!
