Africana’s Rhon Manigault-Bryant will be one of six faculty featured at the upcoming Williams TEDx, an independent TED event on Saturday, January 25th. Her talk, #dangerousbodies #blackwomen #scifi, interrogates negative representations of black women’s bodies in popular media, and raises questions about the effectiveness of science fiction for combatting those depictions.
Prof. Manigault-Bryant’s TEDx contribution is inspired by her two courses “Dangerous Bodies: Black Womanhood, Sexuality and Popular Culture” and “Race, Gender, and the Alien Body: Octavia Butler’s Science Fiction.”
