Africana is proud to be part of the Environmental Studies symposium, organized by Prof. Jennifer French, taking place on Nov. 18, 2010, from 7-9 p.m. Professors Kim Smith and Lisa Paravisini-Gebert will be speaking. Smith teaches Political Science at Carleton and is the author of African American Environmental Thought; Paravisini-Gebert is in Hispanic Studies at Vassar and works on nationalism + environment in the Caribbean. This panel will highlight the social, political, and racial contours of environmental policy and the environmetnal movement, encouraging us all to think of new ways to link environmental justice to the cause of oppressed minorities in the United States.
